About

John Manchester was born in Baltimore, which perhaps explains his early fascination with the works of Edgar Allen Poe. His passion for music led him to a performing career starting at age 13 in a Beatles imitation band, where he posed as John Lennon in a wig. He later played guitar in a group that toured opening for Linda Ronstadt and Fleetwood Mac. He taught himself to compose and soon made a living at it. His compositions are heard worldwide on TV, radio and the internet. They were popular for the happy, hopeful feelings they evoked. Wishing to indulge his darker impulses, he taught himself to write. His pieces about the arts, life and growing up with his late father, the historian William Manchester have been published at Salon.com, Medium.com and on his blog. He’s haunted by memories of strange, terrible and even miraculous things. And so he transforms them into fiction in the Ray of Darkness series of Deep Psychological Thrillers. After decades in New England, he moved to California with his family. He misses the seasons, but not digging his car out of the snow. But light needs darkness, like the sun needs the night. And so he turned to writing dark psychological suspense. His stories start as mysteries and evolve into thrillers. They feature best friends Ray Watts and Bodine Hutchinson, refugees from the rock and roll scene.
